No, You Can’t Control Time and Space: Let Go

Our lives can be peaceful and fine on the outside, yet inside we create our own mental hell. How often are you finding yourself upset at a slow driver, traffic stop light, rude opinions from people or wayward children? How often are you attempting to control how much someone likes you? How often are you lost in thought to matters that will never be changed, regardless of how much you ponder it? This is the reality for millions of individuals, who stiff-arm their peace in exchange for fear and anxiety. If you can honestly self-reflect with me, how often do you catch yourself thinking about ways to change the impossible? Does a sailor, when he’s out in the ocean, attempt to change the water?

life is much more about reacting to events, situations and people than actually acting. Absorb this. We all feel that we’re in control of our lives, that it’s entirely up to us to change things. Of course, we need to make the first step, get out, take risks and push ourselves. But that is where our control ends. Most of everything in this existence is nothing more than a reaction to something. In a literal sense, every single day we step outside to go do things we are in constant reaction to whatever comes our way. This includes traffic, good/bad energy, relationships, and time. Literally everything outside your mind is able to potentially cause a reaction out of you, nothing is void of this potential. Something as minor as a comment on social media that has nothing to do with you, is guilty of reaction. How many of us are on the giving end of trying to somehow overthink our way into attracting someone? The list goes on and on, yet the point is to reject thoughts on matters that are not actively something you can control.

I feel that many people go out in the world, pay their bills and go to sleep at night thinking that they have far more control than they actually do. People are hyper focused on movement and action, turning a blind eye to reality for what it is. We are nothing more than a sailor out in the ocean, watching the water around us do as it so pleases. Nature does whatever it desires, and we can’t change it. So why do we as humans attempt to change other impossibilities?

The goal for you and me, is to change the lenses in which we wear. Change your perspective. Many people have the wrong lenses on for happiness. If you go out into the world subconsciously ignoring what you can and can’t control, you’re already dancing on top of your peace. You must have the perspective, right now, that you are nothing more than a sailor in the ocean. You do what you can, then let go and let nature run its course. Try it for me. The next time you find yourself in traffic, stressed mentally about time or other cars, imagine you’re a sailor in the open waters and you’re just going along for the ride. You’re not reacting to anything, you’re just at peace and acceptance with the reality of the situation. If you truly can grasp this perspective, you will immediately find a certain level of peace. Your mind will relax, and your body will not react. There is something deeply potent about knowing you are only a passenger to life, not the full driver most of the time. Change your lenses, so that from the moment you wake up in the morning you’re already prepared for everything outside your mind.

Letting go of external things is probably one of the most difficult aspects of this existence for most people. Even if you’re in the worst situation of your life, you have full control of your thoughts. If you’re broke, sad and rejected, remember that your thoughts can easily pull you out of the waters of sadness through this nightmare, every single time. You know subconsciously that suffering is always temporary. It’s your duty to accept reality for what it is and let go of any thoughts that aren’t actively increasing your well-being. this is entirely possible, even through the roughest of times. For most people, when their lives are falling apart around them, they react by stabbing the sword even deeper. Their own minds dump gasoline on an already disorderly fire. Never forget, You have the ability to go through horrific circumstance in your life while simultaneously being authentic towards your happiness. Imagine that? Zero in on what you can control in life and dust off all you can’t control.

Become hyper-focused to only what you want to achieve, at all times. Even when you’re awake late at night, the most vulnerable time for most people, you have full control over how you persuade your thoughts. We can’t literally stop a thought from appearing, but when a thought does appear, the way we will react to that thought will determine the following thoughts. Let that sink in for a moment. We can, by nature, change the course of our thoughts. Our subconsciousness stores all our past moments and memories to be used at a later time. This means we can gear our thoughts to the direction we want to optimize our well-being at any given time. take note.

I always say it like this, regarding your thoughts in anything. If a monk can burn to death in protest, all without any signs of suffering or pain, what makes you think you can’t do the same on your anxiety, overthinking and negative thoughts?
